Attention to Detail (ATD) is pleased to announce the successful completion of our painting and protective coating works on the West Gate Tunnel project in Melbourne, Victoria—one of the most significant infrastructure developments currently reshaping the city’s transport network.
The West Gate Tunnel is a critical link in Melbourne’s road system, designed to reduce congestion on the West Gate Bridge, provide a vital second river crossing, and improve access to and from the western suburbs. ATD was engaged to complete a specialised coatings scope focused on durability, safety, and compliance with the highest industry standards.
Our Scope of Works
ATD was responsible for the full surface preparation and coating of the tunnel’s emergency egress doors—an essential safety element of the overall tunnel system. Our works included:

Application of Dulux Group’s anti-carbonation coatings, selected specifically for their durability, moisture resistance, and long-term protection against environmental pollutants and carbonation.

The Importance of Anti-Carbonation Coatings
In tunnel environments, infrastructure elements are continuously exposed to a combination of moisture, vehicle emissions, and fluctuating temperatures. These conditions can lead to carbonation—where carbon dioxide penetrates concrete surfaces, reducing the pH level and leading to corrosion of embedded steel reinforcement.
